July is a month that all Hamptons employees greatly look forward to. Not because it is cold and in the middle of winter, but because it is the month of our annual stocktake.
This stocktake has no impact on our day-to-day running of the business, but please be aware that on Saturday 27th of July, we will not be opening. Just a reminder that if you need anything for your weekend work, it will be best to collect whatever you need on the Friday afternoon before. We will be open normal business hours from 29th July, and with our stock count complete we should be all good from now until the end of the year.

Big Mel from the trade counter ‘as ‘ad a right old rummage, and this month ‘e’s got a bleedin’ corker of a deal for all you wheelers and dealers out there.
On the counter ‘ere, we’ve got two Draper Socket sets, 30 well-crafted pieces, all yours for a mere $175 (that’s with the GST thrown in, no extra dosh needed!). A deal like this? Well, it ain’t to be sniffed at, mate.
Big Mel ‘imself would love to bend your ear about ‘ow top-notch this set is, so our advice is to get in sharpish, have a chinwag with Mel or any of the other gents at the trade counter, and nab yourself this cracking deal before it’s gone. Mel might even slip you a tip on the gee-gees while you’re at it. Don’t miss out on this socket set, it’s the nuts and bolts of a proper bargain!

After six weeks of drifting around the world, our number one creditor’s lady, Raewyn Warwood, has returned to the fold with thousands of kilometers under her belt and stories aplenty.
We asked Raewyn for a detailed account of her adventures to which she responded with the following:
“The places I went to are San Fransisco, Dublin, London, Geneva, France, Venice, Amsterdam, Prague & Munich.”
Well thanks for that Raewyn, I guess it’s up to us to fill in the blanks. Raewyn started her world safari by meeting her sister in San Fransisco where they saw some sights (and boy, did they see some sights – you’ll have to ask her!)
From there it was across the vast expanse of the Atlantic to Dubin and London where the weather came to the party and they were treated to many fine days – hardly the stereotypical weather of the UK.
France added some gallic flair to the trip and provided some fine shopping, albeit expensive, before they traveled to Venice, Amsterdam, Prague, and Munich. Photos were taken, local food was sampled, and there was a healthy dose of alcohol thrown in as the trip reached its zenith.
We have yet to see the full slide show of the trip, but there is a promise of this on the horizon and we’ll be sure to “ooh” and “arrh” at all the right moments.
Raewyn has now settled back into the hard reality of working at Hamptons, and like a summer romance, her European sojourn is now just a warm memory slowly fading with each passing winter’s day.

June – a month of charity work
Mild-mannered builder’s merchants by day, do-gooding charity workers by night, that’s us here at Hamptons ITM.
June saw a couple of charity events that Hamptons was involved in.
First was the Pink Ribbon lunch hosted by our own Karlie Read. Karlie hosted a bevy of beauties at her home where she supplied a selection of tempting food. For the soiree, Hamptons ITM donated the materials to build a cornhole set that was completed by the outstanding young men of Galletly Builders.
The day was a success on every level and a tidy sum was donated to Breast Cancer Foundation.
The second event that Hamptons was part of was the Halberg Trust annual golf day. For this event, Hamptons ITM provided the BBQ (and the manpower) to keep the participants fuelled around the course.
Mid-winter isn’t perhaps the best time to host a golf tournament, but despite the freezing conditions a good number attended and all were grateful for the warm refreshments provided by the Hamptons team.
Karlie and Anthony did a stellar job on the BBQ and we have had nothing but good feedback about their efforts.
Thanks to all who attended these events and thanks to the Hamptons ITM team for going that extra mile to support the community and make these events a success. It’s true what they say – not all heroes wear capes.
You can read further information about the work of the Pink Ribbon Foundation and the Halberg Trust at the links below:

- When it comes to laying concrete in front of a garage there is a right way, a wrong way, and a driveway.
- Why did the scarecrow become a successful construction manager?
Because he was outstanding in his field!
- Why don’t construction workers ever get lost?
Because they always know the drill!
- How do construction workers party?
They raise the roof!
- Why did the construction worker break up with the concrete mixer?
Because there was no solid foundation!

This month at Hamptons ITM we have a hot deal on this Makita Pruning Saw. Come in and see the guys to get it for $350 incl GST.

10 insightful questions to help you get to know our team better. Nick Adams is a legend, you just don’t know it yet. This week our newest account manager kindly volunteered to sit in the hot seat and face our ten random questions. We learned a lot about him, and you will too as he gave us a variety of opinions across a range of subjects.
1. What was your first job?
Waiter at Noah’s Hotel, and worked my way up to the Eruwhon, at the time Christchurch’s premier silver service restaurant. I met Bono there in 1983
2. Favorite power tool?
You are always excited by your latest tool, a Makita 18v jigsaw but honestly can’t go past my Milwaukee impact driver…love that tool!3. Best name for a dog?
Boris….or the first family dog I remember…Butch!4. Is this the Warrior’s year?
I’ve never been on the “this is our year” bandwagon. Once we make the top 8 for 5 or 6 consecutive years with the last 2 or 3 in the top four…I might use that term….but not before….Christchurch could well have its own NRL team by then, to go with our new Stadium…keen to hear any suggestions for their name…5. Greatest concert you’ve been to?
Tough…any one of the 4 x U2 concerts with the “Love Comes to Town” with 50,000 at Lancaster Park in 1989 is probably the pick. For Festivals (even though you didn’t ask) it would be hard to choose between the Millenium Gathering in Takaka and Burning Man in Nevada in 20156. Best cocktail in Christchurch?
Used to be a big fan of “Vapour Locks” a firey black sambuca concoction that involved trapping the alcoholic vapour and sucking it with a straw…Now it’s a bit more sedate….Espresso Martinis have been the go lately!7. Your greatest attribute? (modesty be damned)
Sometimes to my detriment…..I am extremely empathetic, I genuinely care about people and their “stories”8. Have you ever been to Invercargill?
Several times, unlike Keith Richards I quite like Invers…I fought there as a 17-year-old in the Canterbury v Southland Boxing tournament at the newly finished “Q Bowl”9. What’s a guaranteed dance floor filler?
Where do I start…..Insomniac by Faithless. (The Lee Haslam Hard trance mix has never failed me), Delerium’s Silence, (Tiestos Sunrise mix), although any version of this tune is guaranteed to see my wife on the D floor. I could go on….so I will….couldn’t go past Right Here, Right Now by Fat Boy Slim or Prodigy’s Firestarter….
10. Where will Liverpool finish next season?
Hmmm this is where you want to set expectations below your desires…..Second!…safely above Chelsea with only half the salary.
Best wishes,
David & Wendy, Don, Carolyn and the rest of the team at Hamptons ITM
