Greetings and a very warm welcome to our March (that’s right March!) 2022 edition of Hamptons Happenings…

In this issue we:

Welcome to the team

Last month we teased that a new staff member would be joining us, and now, here he is: Anthony Stephenson, account manager extraordinaire.

Anthony has lived and breathed the building industry for many years, putting in long stints at Metalcraft roofing, and then one of our big-box competitors.

Who better to tell us more than the man himself, than Anthony, who has bravely fronted up for this video in his first week here.

Welcome aboard Anthony, nice work on the video.

Accoya has been grown commercially since 2007, and we’ve seen a marked increase in its use in recent years.

Last year it was the cladding of choice for the newly built New Brighton Surf Club. From the photos below you can see just how stunning it looks on the finished project.

It is ideal for an application such as this, being warranted for 50 years above ground, and 25 years in the ground. Working closely with our partners at ITI Timspec, both Hamptons and our client were more than pleased with the final result.

For more information about this product, have a chat with your friendly Hamptons Account Manager, and “they’ll see you right”.

New Zealand homes are about to get a lot warmer with MBIE introducing changes to this year’s building code. These changes don’t come into effect until 2022, but they are significant and worth noting.

There will be changes to insulation requirements for roof, window, wall, and underfloor. Due to the cooler climate in the Canterbury region, we will see a change to R7.0 roofs, with R3.2 walls and R2.6 slabs.

This is good news on two fronts; firstly, there will be a one-year transition period to prepare for the changes, and secondly, these new insulation values should reduce the energy needed to heat a home by approximately 40%. With these changes implemented, those cold Christchurch winters suddenly don’t seem so daunting.

We have a deal on these Makita 2-piece kits for you this month. Come and visit us in-store to see all of our deals on power tools.

Everyone is an expert at Hamptons ITM – and not just when it comes to building products!

Each month one of our staff will offer up a top 5 from one of their specialist subjects outside of the building industry.

They say New Zealand culture is rugby, racing, and beer –  and if that’s the case then Mel Lange is the most cultured man at Hamptons ITM. After years of extensive and in-depth research, Mel has provided us with his top 5 pubs in Christchurch for a quiet, or not so quiet, night out with your wife, husband, or a group of friends.

1. Miller Bar, Lincoln Rd
In the style of a classic English Pub, the Millar bar offers a range of fine beers and a popular pub quiz. They also have good live music, which is perhaps the biggest draw for Mel
2. Tai Tapu Hotel, Tai Tapu
They have a courtesy shuttle! A great place for a Sunday afternoon, they also provide live music and a reasonable menu. But the beer garden here is the main attraction.
3. The Good Home, Wigram
Mel’s home away from home (it’s also close to his home, so one can see the attraction). Mel made special mention of the outside area here, one of the best places to see and be seen.
4. The Vicarage, Lincoln.
Two words – food, and ambience. The Vicarage has both in spades, and Mel often brings his good wife here when she requires attention and a good date night.
5.The Long Knight, Halswell
As he has matured, Mel has grown into these gastro pubs/restaurants. This is another one that fits the bill for a reasonably priced meal and a good night out. We haven’t been there ourselves, but looking at the photos of the food online it may well be the next place we visit for a meal and a couple of quiet pints.

Have you been to any of these places, or do you have any other suggestions for Mel to try? Let him know your favourite pubs next time you’re in, I’m sure he’ll relish a lively discussion about it.

Best wishes, David & Wendy, Don, Carolyn and the rest of the team at Hamptons ITM
