Things are goin’ great
And they’re only gettin’ better
I’m doin’ all right
Gettin’ good grades
The future’s so bright
I gotta wear shades
The 80’s tragics amongst you will recognize this song as “The Future’s So Bright, I Gotta Wear Shades” by Timbuk 3, while anyone born post-1990 will be wondering why we’re opening this week with random song lyrics from 1986. We can’t speak for what the future holds, but we can tell you that if you need sunglasses with style (Shades in the parlance of the time) Hamptons is the place to come.
We currently have a range of Esko safety glasses available, all priced at $55 a pair including GST. Some quick googling tells us that this is considerably cheaper than our competitors and we are keen to pass these savings on to our customers as much as possible.
Google also tells us that these glasses are impact-resistant, have a high-performance lens coating, and come with a convenient microfibre pouch. A quick poll of the staff here also tells us that these are extremely stylish and sure to sell out fast.
With four styles available, Cuba, Sahara, Tokyo, and Hawaii, there is something to suit everyone. The Tokyo style is proving to be the most popular so far, although to be fair they all look pretty good.
These four styles are sitting on the front counter, where you can’t miss them, and any one of our fine staff would be only too happy to help you with your safety glasses needs.
Below we have three of Hampton’s top models styling some of these glasses. (Karlie was concerned that the tag on her glasses spoilt the photo but we have assured her that no one will even notice and they look fine. We are sure nobody will say anything to her….)
The future out there looks so bright, you gotta wear shades…!
(And for those with the song stuck in your head, you can get your fix HERE!)

Mike is known for two things at Hamptons ITM, his efficiency and his smile. But there is more to the man than that, and after cautiously avoiding the pages of Hamptons Happenings we finally caught him this month to face our ten random questions that should provide some insight into the man behind the smile.
1. What is the best match for Red Wine?
There was one I had at my wedding, I can’t remember what it’s called, but it was a mature cheese and a really great match. If I can remember the name I’ll tell ya…those who need to know don’t forget to ask Mike next time you are in store.
2. Best place to watch a sunrise?
There’s an overpass bridge just above the Amica Supermarket in Sako, Nagoya where we watched the sunrise when I first made it to Japan… that will always be one of the most memorable moments during my time in Japan. We had been out all night and left the karaoke bar just before 5. At 5.45 we watched the sunrise from this bridge, two Aussies, two Canadians, one American, and one Bangladeshi and it was perfect.
3. Can you surf?
Nope. Can’t swim, hate sharks.
4. Ronaldo or Messi?
Messi.
5. Where do you take the kids when they need entertainment?
When they were little they used to love the Dinosaur Park in Wanaka. They are a lot more grown up now and I have to take them to Hawaii for my friend’s wedding in November!
6. Do you ever see your High School friends?
Not as much as I’d like (obviously, I’m from Canada). It makes me a little sad.
7. Temu or AliExpress?
Temu. It’s fast, efficient, and cheap. Did I mention fast?
8. What was your first pet?
It was a dog, a little hotdog. We called him Swampy.
9. What are your first memories of working at Hamptons?
Climbing carefully off the forklift and tearing my meniscus. Great start Mike.
10. Where did you take Astrid for your first date?
To an izakaya in Roppongi. The owner there was British and he had a Japanese wife. The date turned out pretty good – Astrid and I have been married eighteen years now!
Now you all know Mike a little better, say “Hi” to him next time you are in, he’s only a hop, skip and jump from the trade counter and he’s always ready to help out as required.
Best wishes,
David & Wendy, Don, Carolyn and the rest of the team at Hamptons ITM
