Welcome to the April edition of Hamptons Happenings.
In this issue we:
In each issue of Hamptons Happenings we’re telling you a bit more about a key member of the team at Hamptons…
This month is no exception and we are just delighted to be able to shine the spotlight on Darren Mules who can be best described as the ultimate good “kiwi bloke”.
Darren was born in Invercargill and saw the light at a very early age, moving to Christchurch when he was 16. Soon after arriving Darren began working for a baker where he worked for just over 3 years until he fell on his proverbial feet and got a job at the Club Tavern. After 23 years, Darren worked his way up to being bar manager.
Darren’s bar tendering skills can often be observed out in the Hamptons yard and drive-through as he shares a laugh and joke with our customers. Like any good bar tender, Darren is very (very) perceptive, and he knows exactly who might need something more than what they called in for, equally he also knows exactly when someone has “had enough”.
Darren can also pick up if someone is in a hurry and he’ll drop everything to help them on their merry way. Equally, he can tell if one of our customer’s apprentices is dragging their feet and making a meal of their time away from the site. Like any self-respecting bar tender, Darren has a unique knack of very politely moving people on without causing offence and he does an absolutely masterful job of ensuring Hamptons yard and drive-through keep flowing.
On the family front Darren is lucky enough to have 4 sisters and a brother who works for BCITO. Darren is also a devoted father, with a son who’s 26 and a daughter who’s 21.
At Hamptons, Darren is the first to arrive and open up every morning. Darren has spent the past eight years at Hamptons and we consider it to be an honour and a privilege to have him as part of our team. He’s someone you can absolutely rely on and trust, and when you see him going about his work you just can’t help but smile.
In our last issue of Hamptons Happenings, we showcased the world’s first 3D printed building.
In this month’s edition we showcase another world first!
Humans have been laying bricks the same way for the past 6,000 years. Until now!
Late last year a Robot built a 180m2, 3-bedroom, 2-bathroom home structure in less than three days.
The house was built by Robotic technology company, FBR Limited.
The Robotic brick laying truck installs blocks that are fused together using a special adhesive, which bonds in just 45 minutes, holds stronger and results in greater thermal and acoustic properties than traditional mortar. There are no more lost days waiting for mortar to dry.
On Saturday the 6th of April, Hamptons ITM is very proud to be hosting the New Zealand Certified Builders (NZCB), Apprentice Challenge for the Canterbury region.
Carpentry apprentices from around the region will be competing in an eight-hour competition to construct a “unique” building project. Judged by a panel of experienced building practitioners and industry educators, the successful regional winner is the apprentice that shows the highest standard of craftsmanship, safe working technique and time management. The winner then goes on to compete in the national final.
Why not drop into Hamptons and cheer them on? The Apprentice Challenge goes from 8am to 6pm.
This year’s final will be held on the 13th and 14th of June in Christchurch. Finalists will be competing for the Ken Read Memorial Trophy and $50,000 in prizes.
The winner of the NZCB Apprentice Challenge is the carpentry apprentice with the highest practical ability combined with the best all-round knowledge required of a Trade Qualified Building Professional.
Good luck and best wishes to all the Apprentice Challenge competitors.
This month we’re delighted to let you know that we have recently launched a new Hamptons ITM website…Click here to check it out.
