Everyone is an expert at Hamptons ITM – and not just when it comes to building products!

Each month one of our staff will offer up a top 5 from one of their specialist subjects outside of the building industry.

Meet Anthony Stephenson, aka the “zen account manager,” whose calm demeanour belies his fervent passion for a seemingly paradoxical genre: 90s grunge music. This week, Anthony took a trip down memory lane and graciously shared with us his top five all-time favourite grunge songs that once rocked his world as a youth – and that still holds a special place in his heart (and playlist), especially when his better half isn’t around.

**1. Alice in Chains – Man in the Box:** Great guitar riff by Jerry Cantrell and vocals by Layne Stayley. More of a rock song than a grunge song, but one of the all-time classics. Was always on repeat in my younger days. Speakers are always turned up to max volume when played.

**2. Alice in Chains – Nutshell – Unplugged:** More of a mellow, peeled-back version of this song. Unfortunately, only a few months before Layne died and it shows. Still a great performance and heart-wrenching at the same time. Always my go-to song when I need a lift.

**3. Soundgarden – The Day I Tried to Live**: Chris Cornell has to be one of the great singers of all time, and Soundgarden is a very underrated grunge band. Great song about never giving up and always trying again no matter how hard life becomes.

**4. Pearl Jam – Black**: One of the best and earliest Pearl Jam songs. About love lost and moving on. Eddie conveys pain and wanting so well through the lyrics and tone of the song.

**5. Stone Temple Pilots – Cracker Man**: Another underrated grunge band that really rocked hard. A lesser-known song that their bigger hits, but still a great track especially when Scott W sang through a megaphone.

The early 90’s grunge music scene is still one of the best eras and as the saying goes – “I only listen to grunge music occasionally, but when I do, so do my neighbours”.
