Greetings and a very warm welcome to our October 2022 edition of Hamptons Happenings…

In this issue we:

The 2022 ITM Auckland SuperSprint at Pukekohe has roared past us once again. ITM has had a long association with the supercars, and Hamptons was well represented this year with several of our customers making the journey north.

It was a thrilling weekend, and the on-track action was down to the wire as many of you may have seen on TV. Topping off the weekend was a win for the Kiwi Shane Van Gisbergen and a fantastic send-off to supercars at Pukekohe.

We managed to get some photos and videos of the 3-day event from our on-the-spot reporter which you can see below. Thanks to everyone who went and made the event what it was. All eyes now turn to Bathurst and another big weekend as the supercar circus rolls on.

Some men age gracefully, relaxing in the armchair –  pipe in one hand, brandy in the other. Others continue to live the Rock N Roll lifestyle they always have, throwing themselves into life with wilful abandon. Mel Lange of the Hamptons ITM trade counter is just such a man.

He recently celebrated a milestone birthday not with a quiet night at home with his lovely wife but instead hurled himself off a perfectly good bridge. Bungee jumping is generally associated with the young and carefree, so we were taken aback to see the normally mild-mannered Mel rising to the challenge. Even as they tied the bungee on, Mel maintained his cool façade. His wife tells us that he faced his challenge with unwavering intestinal fortitude and didn’t even have the decency to let out a scream as he plunged downwards.

We have taken the liberty to caption the below photo on his behalf. While we admire Mel for his courage, we have serious reservations about his sanity. However, we would like to offer a sincere congratulations to Mel, well done on another birthday gone by, and we tip our hats to you and your courage.

Daylight saving is the perfect time to check the smoke alarms in your house are still in working order. The fire service recommends checking your alarms yearly with Daylight savings, and Hamptons ITM is offering several deals on smoke alarms to coincide with this.

We have thermal heat alarms and Cavius mini smoke alarms on a smoking hot deal of $36.90 each (ex-GST), and for those customers with new builds, we have a home starter PACK (3-PCE) for $104 (ex-GST).

As for those alarms you already have in your home, it is recommended that you press the test button to sound the alarm. (Use a broom handle if you can’t reach the button), give them a dust or a vacuum. And if you have a 9V battery alarm, replace the battery every year. Your alarms will start to beep regularly if the battery is low, and if you need a new battery, well you know where you can go for that – we’ll see you right!

Bungee jumping off a rickety old bridge isn’t the scariest thing in the world. For many people, getting up on stage in front of strangers and dancing is a far more daunting prospect.

Not so for Andrew Blackler, Hamptons quotes co-ordinator, who took to the stage recently at the Court Theatre. Hamptons ITM has a very long association with the Court Theatre, going back many years, and we are proud sponsors for the 22/23 season. In September, several Hamptons staff members attended the play “Flagons and Foxtrots” – a performance that does rely on audience participation.

While most men fearfully sunk lower in their seats as the cast scoured the audience for ‘volunteers’, Andrew Blackler stood tall. Cometh the hour, cometh the man, and he strode purposefully to the stage whereupon he wowed the audience, and his workmates, with a fine display of dancing.

This man can certainly cut some shapes, and he caught the eye of many a woman in the crowd. While most of us would be scared stiff of being on stage, Andrew’s every move was fluid and graceful.  Thanks to the Court Theatre for another great performance, and well done to Andrew for representing us well and showing us how it is done.

Would you rather go bungee jumping or dance onstage?

On the 27th of October, Hamptons will be hosting another Toolbox Top-up extravaganza. This was a popular event last year, and we expect another good morning here at Hamptons, starting from 7am on the 27th of October

As you may remember from last year, there will be a range of specials and hot deals available on the day plus a few prizes and giveaways which always prove popular. Keep an eye on our social media channels over the next few weeks as we provide more information on some of the extremely hot deals we’ll be running and more about the event.

Until then, mark the 27th of October in your calendar and we look forward to catching up with you on the day and “we’ll see you right” with some fantastic deals on all the biggest brands including; Makita | Hikoki | DeWalt | Milwaukee…

With daylight savings starting recently, it’s a good idea to check your smoke alarms. Check out our deals on smoke alarms this month.

Everyone is an expert at Hamptons ITM – and not just when it comes to building products!

Each month one of our staff will offer up a top 5 from one of their specialist subjects outside of the building industry.

You may not know Fiona Woods, Hampton’s accountant, but she is one of the most important people here at Hamptons – she’s the one that looks after our payroll! After a tough week of staring at spreadsheets, she likes nothing better than unwinding with a glass of wine and a good romantic movie – once the kids are tucked up in bed of course. Here are Fiona’s top 5 recommendations for a romantic movie to watch with your loved one.

1. The Princess Bride – this movie has it all – action, comedy, fantasy, torture, true love – inconceivable! What’s not to love? This still holds up as a great watch.
2. The Notebook – Forget the plot, the location, the action, this one is all about Ryan Gosling  – need I say more?

3. Singing in the Rain
 – We couldn’t have a top five without an old-school musical and they don’t come any better than Singing In The rain.
4. Bridget Jones’s Diary – This is definitely one to enjoy with a glass of wine. It is both lighthearted and fun while Bridget makes it cute to be curvy.
5. Pride and Prejudice – Mr. Darcy, Mr. Darcy, Mr. Darcy (I’m showing my age and talking about the Colin Firth version!) How can a man of so few words win our hearts so easily. (Hint: it’s all in his smouldering gaze).

Best wishes,

David & Wendy, Don, Carolyn and the rest of the team at Hamptons ITM
